Therma Rest, The chair of the Future!
Date: Sunday October 4, 2009Posted in: Types of Camping Chairs
Hey everyone! So I thought I would take this time to explain why I love my absolute favorite camping chair, the Therm-a-rest folding chair!
Intro
This mighty little chair doesn’t look as comfortable as it truly is. I guarantee you that when you rest up in one of these you wont want to get up until bedtime! With it’s sleek and lightweight design you can’t find a problem with it.
Pros
Lightweight – a must for any camping chair, especially one that you need to go backpacking with! This little chair weighs about 200 grams. Yes this chair is extremely light and wont encumber you at all!
Easy storage – Though long, this chair can easily fit in most bags. duffel bags, backpacks, exterior packs, and interior packs. This chair fits them all!
Comfortable – So relaxing! You really have no idea! This chair sits on the ground and allows maximum rest. You can adjust the straps to determine how reclined you are.
Cons
Durability – Though the outer cloth like material is very durable the straps have been known to break. This could result in an uneven recline and so I advise those using the chair not to stress the straps and to remember it is not a indestructible chair.
Mattress – yes, this chair won’t be any good unless you have the mattress inside it. This can be a costly chair. But it is worth it! I recommend the full body therm-a-rest mattress in order to have a double layer of padding on both sides of the chair.
Conclusion
I love this chair and advise anyone interested in buying a new chair to consider this one. It requires a bit of cash (for the chair and the mattress) but it is definitely worth it. I often say “I love my chair!” about 3 times a day when I am hiking!
So I recently got back from my 4 day 3 night camping trip in algonquin park and I am so happy with my camping chair!
I carry a therma-rest mattress with me. It is light and very easy to use. The main idea of it is to sleep on but I found a cool tool that turns it into a chair!
The therma-rest chair cover is the ultimate when you need a lightweight, comfortable chair. It is very easy to set up, quick drying, and a bargain when you need it. It is perfect for sitting by the lake after a long day of hiking or canoeing and just relaxing.
Because of it’s shape it is very comfortable and can be adjusted for reclining. My dad and I use them religiously and sit in them most of the time when we are making dinner or lounging before bed.
I will post some pictures later, when I have them uploaded. The chair is easy to set up but one downside is how low it is. It obviously doesn’t have legs or anything like that so you are right on the ground, so standing up is a difficult process. Especially after a long day of exercise.
The therma-rest chair is the best for lightweight camping around and I always recommend it to anyone looking for comfort in the middle of the bush.
